Wild Mustard Business Philosophy
As a designer, my main goal is to create unusual, often one-of-a-kind handbags. As a manufacturer, I insist on top quality
materials and painstaking production, so that every Wild Mustard handbag will provide years of reliable service as well as
visual and tactile satisfaction. I hope you enjoy exploring the web site, and that I can create a bag just for you!
Employees
Employees play an important role in any business. At the moment, I am all of them rolled into one, the
quintessential 'technician seized with an entreprenurial urge' (Michael Gerber, The E Myth). Although it can be difficult
to wear every hat, it is also exhilarating to take on tasks one has never before attempted (biology majors are not generally
known for their accounting skills) and thus occasionally discover hidden skills and talents. My business is a lot like my
young son - challenging, absorbing, always testing me, and the provider of heretofore unknown highs and lows.

The Company
Wild Mustard came into being in June of 2002, but its roots lie far back in my childhood. My parents, both of whom painted,
always encouraged my sister and me in our creative endeavors, from early drawings and paintings to tie dye, needlecrafts,
sewing, stencils and all kinds of beading. My sister Amanda became a jeweller (see her work at www.ravensjewel.com); I turned
to fabric and fiber. Like many mothers of small children, I want to stay home with my child while also using my creativity
to add to the family coffers. My friends (especially Amie, Heather and Craig) and my immediate and extended family have been
extremely supportive of my aspirations, without which encouragement there would be no Wild Mustard. My thanks to all of you,
especially Eric and Sam.
Why Wild Mustard?
Wild mustard is a weed that grows all over California, especially after the spring rains. Although each flower is small, together
the bushes can transform a hillside with brilliant yellow color. It is one of the little things that I miss about home, and
although humble and rather ordinary, it is also ubiquitous, tenacious and at times even beautiful.
